In preparation for the election opening in March, your SHS Section is seeking candidates for the offices of Board of Directors. Members wishing to be placed in nomination for the chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer or at-large director positions shall submit their names to the Election Committee.
Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer – 2 year positions
At Large Director 3 Positions – 3 year positions
If you’re a chief officer and a member of the SHS who’s interested in serving your fellow SHS Section members in this capacity, forward the following to SHS Section liaison Richard Miller by February 28:
- Name and office sought
- Employer and position within the organization
- If applicable, your supervisor’s written authorization to serve in the position being sought
- Disclosure of any potential conflict of interest, including private contractual or consulting relationships
- Safety Officer Certifications
- A 250-word maximum biography and/or platform
Duties of the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors shall:
- Have general charge of the affairs of the Section.
- Review the work of the Section and develop policy for the Section.
- Amend or approve the budget prepared by the treasurer for submission to the IAFC Board of Directors.
Eligibility for Office
Officers of the Section’s Board of Directors must be non-retired, current, Regular Section and IAFC members at the time of their candidacy and, if elected, must maintain IAFC and Section membership for the duration of their term.
To be an officer of the section, the member must have served a minimum of one 3-year term as a member of the Section’s Board of Directors.
At least six of the nine at–large directors of the Section’s Board of Directors must be non-retired, current Regular Section and IAFC members at the time of their candidacy and, if elected, must maintain IAFC and Section memberships for the duration of their term. No more than three of the at-large directors may be retired chief officers.
Any officer of the Section’s board who retires while in office shall be permitted to remain in office until the next regular annual meeting of the Section, when a new officer shall be elected by the membership.
Any at-large director of the Section’s board who retires while in office shall be permitted to remain in office for the duration of his/her term as long as the number of retired directors on the board does not exceed three. If a retirement causes this number to rise to four, the director shall remain in office until the next regular annual meeting of the Section, when a new director shall be elected by the membership.
Section members who are Associate members of the IAFC may not serve on the
Section’s Board of Directors.
The Section’s International Director will be appointed by the Section’s Board of Directors. The appointee must be a Regular, non-retired IAFC member and a Regular section member for the duration of the term of office.
2018 IAFC General Election – Voting Eligibility
Voting rights for the IAFC general election are reserved for regular, departmental, and life members only. Associate, basic and affiliate members are not eligible to vote for seats on the IAFC board. Members must be paid through at least March 31, 2018 to ensure receipt of voting credentials when the election opens in May. New members must join by May 25, 2018 in order to qualify.
