San Diego Fire-Rescue Department
Brian Fennessy is the Assistant Chief of Emergency Operations for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Chief Fennessy has over 36 years of fire service experience. He spent his first 14 years working as a wildland firefighter with both the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
He represents local government on the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Leadership Committee (LC). Leadership, or problems associated with its practice on the fireline, has been cited as a factor contributing to wildland fire accidents for many years. The mission of the NWCG LC is to promote cultural change in the work force and to emphasize the vital importance of leadership concepts in the wildland fire service by providing educational and leadership development opportunities.
Chief Fennessy is currently the IAFC Wildland Fire Policy Committee (WFPC) liaison to the IAFC Safety, Health & Survival Section Board of Directors.
